John D. Liu is a Chinese American ecologist, and the ambassador for the Commonland foundation. He has 25 years of experience in the field of Ecosystem Restoration. For the past 17 years, he’s been involved in projects such as the restoration of China’s Loess Plateau. The connection between restoring devastated landscapes and the eradication of global poverty is one of John’s primary messages.

John D. Liu is the Chairman of the Advisory Board of a citizen-driven movement “Ecosystem Restoration Camps”. These restoration camps focus on increasing biodiversity, biomass, and soil organic matter – all factors necessary to mitigate and adapt to human-induced climate change.

John D. Liu is an excellent storyteller and advices The Weather Makers in conveying the message why we need to regreen the planet. His documentary ‘Green Gold’ inspired many ecosystem restoration works.
